To act as NPI HW Cost Reduction Specialist co-existing with the CommScope NPI Hardware development teams, to influence the development of leading-edge, fully cost optimized, hardware products that are fit for purpose entering Mass Production. Working in parallel to assigned project teams internal or JDM, to assess, develop & test alternate cost reduction ideas, designs and solutions. Primary focus will be to facilitate the Cost Reduction and Margin Improvement on ALL NEW NPI products developed for the market and instill cost optimization as a process across our hardware designs. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Cost Reduction (CR) Focused Accountabilities - Oversee the Design & Test reliable, cost effective HW that conforms to Customer or CommScope specifications. - Review designs for cost implications, researching ways to achieve the functionality in the most cost-effective manner & push ALL xDM teams to leverage their cost-down experience into CommScope projects. - Ensure that a complete CR review is performed at POC or EPR1 CAD cycle during project delivery prior to Customer Validation and Sign-off. - Work with vendors to define/understand product roadmaps and ensure maximum alignment with CommScope strategic aims and profit-margin expectations. - Assess ALL CR material with affected teams – Project Team, CE, Supply Chain, SW, Manufacturing, etc. - Drive maximum product and design re-use through promoting a common cost-optimized hardware strategy. - Assist Schematic & Layout review with wider team to ensure all inputs are considered and implemented, where applicable. Component Engineering guidance on Long Lead Time, NFND parts and all PPL/PPS steerage to be considered ahead of review. - Where key componentry is single source supply; seek low-cost second source alternates for consideration. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS - HND/Degree/M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering or related subject. - A mature highly motivated individual with demonstrated technical abilities in both HW & system level design. A logical and systematic approach to hardware design and problem solving. - Will have significant number of years commercial hardware design and development experience. - Ability to influence system level design to achieve the company defined field failure rates. - Ability to analyse/evaluate competitive products and provide low cost recommendations. - Ability to provide complex technology product definition & cost-effective implementation. - Possess detailed knowledge of hardware design and analysis tools including expertise in layout techniques for analogue and high-speed circuits. - Completed several complex and multi-disciplinary projects utilising all aspects of DFR, DFM and EMC techniques. - Detailed component knowledge including road maps for product critical component technologies related to the "core business". - Strong negotiating skills including schedule negotiation with commercial teams, third parties and customers. - Business awareness – sensitivity to product, project and corporate profitability. - Thorough understanding of the needs of “development to manufacture”, preferably in high volume production environment, to maximise speed to market with cost-optimised designs. - Practical component level engineering skills and a working knowledge of worldwide Product Compliance.
